Los Angeles, early 80s: "No Future" is more than just a slogan for "The Rejected", a group of teenage squatters. The former suburban paradise of the US of A has long since turned into the opposite for the group around the brothers Evan and Ethan and many others: the precarious circumstances from which they come and their parents, who are not only emotionally absent, have robbed them of any hope for a better life and any trust in society and its authorities. Their elixir of life: the punk concerts of bands like D.I., T.S.O.L. and The Vandals. In their hopelessness, the Outsiders direct their destructiveness against everything and everyone outside their group, thus attracting the hatred of the "decent" citizens...
"Inspired by true events" is no empty phrase in the case of SUBURBIA. Director Penelope Spheeris (THE BOYS NEXT DOOR, WAYNE'S WORLD) not only portrayed the Californian suburban punks in her cult documentary THE DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION, but also cast them in SUBURBIA. No empty phrase either: SUBURBIA is a cult film - somewhere between a social drama and an exploitation film (co-produced by B-movie legend Roger Corman), which has a long-lasting effect due to its authenticity and rawness.
