RELEASE-DATE: 27.10.2023 New from Anolis Entertainment
Brought back from an American space mission, a creature from Venus hatched from gooey jelly, a kind of humanoid reptile, grows more and more each day on Earth, swelling to a hundred times its original size. The tormented, utterly terrified creature breaks its chains and runs amok in the ancient monuments of a world city. Finally, tank guns shoot it from the largest enclosed structure of Roman antiquity, the Colosseum, onto which it has fled.
This film marked the beginning of Ray Harryhausen's film work in Europe. At first, the alien "Ymir", a monstrous homunculus, was supposed to rage in Chicago, but then Harryhausen was able to convince his producer Charles H. Schneer to shoot in visually appealing locations in Rome: A blend of antiquity and science fiction, so to speak. Among the team's famous fantastic films, it was the one that came closest to Harryhausen's model KING KONG in story and animation.
