When Captain Kronos was released, it was simply overlooked. Today, thanks in no small part to prominent fans such as Quentin Tarantino and Peter Jackson, it is considered an absolute cult film in the Hammer series: almost a hardcore version of Polanski's DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES.
Brian Clemens, who came from television and had conceived THE AVENGERS (INCHYPE), wrote this vampire story and let his irony run wild. In Kronos, a former captain of the English army, he created a character that was ahead of its time, the blueprint of Wesley Snipes in BLADE.
Captain Kronos is on the trail of vampires who do more than just suck blood: they take the youth of their victims. He hunts and kills them like a samurai, with his katana, a Japanese long sword, drawn. German actor Horst Janson in the role of Kronos no longer follows in the tradition of Van Helsing, but rather that of antiheroes from Toshiro Mifune to Clint Eastwood.
