14-year-old Cody Walpole (Henry Thomas) is traveling through the Australian outback with his girlfriend Wendy (Rachel Friend). The two discover a seemingly enchanted lake that is not marked on any map. It soon turns out that this is a forbidden place for the Aborigines. A monster named Donkegin is said to live there. Then the children discover the body of old Neville, who appears to have frozen to death. The discoveries lead the children into a mysterious adventure.
