When the giant egg of the butterfly deity Mothra washes up on the Japanese coast after a storm, it immediately attracts shady businessmen. Although some journalists try to help the dwarfish girls of Mothra's home island to get the egg back, Mothra's offspring become an object of speculation. When Godzilla suddenly appears, chaos is perfect. Soon, the adult Mothra intervenes to protect her egg, but she is old and cannot do much against the radioactive lizard. However, two caterpillars hatch from the egg and the monster fight goes into the final round after the army unsuccessfully tries to stop Godzilla. But are the caterpillars a match for Godzilla's primal power?
GODZILLA AND THE UR-MASSES was the last film in which Godzilla was allowed to show his full malicious side. This favourite design of the giant lizard and the encounter with the successful giant butterfly Mothra will make the hearts of monster movie fans beat faster. This is what Japanese monster cinema should look like.
