Mattie is shocked: her boyfriend Josh has committed suicide. But when she receives emails from him, her shock quickly turns to sheer terror. She and her college friends try to find Josh's computer and come across Dexter, a tinkerer who tells them about unusual events. Shadowy figures come and go, ghosts that do not belong in our world. Across the country, there are more and more suicides, more and more people disappearing or behaving strangely. Mattie and Dexter finally uncover an experiment that has failed in a terrible way.

Almost ten years have passed since the events in “Pulse 2.”
The virus is still raging, and little Justine, now a teenager, lives with her foster family in a refugee camp. When she finds an old laptop in a car, she can't resist and logs on to the internet. A mysterious stranger named Adam is already waiting for her online. He wants Justine to visit him. The only catch: she has to go back to her hometown. Justine sets out on the long, dangerous journey back to where the disaster began. But what awaits her there exceeds her worst imaginings.
