Unlike his previous films THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN and WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST, Mr. B.I.G. himself, director Bert I. Gordon—who passed away in March 2023 at the age of 100—took a different approach with this production. Inspired by THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, he created a contemporary variation on the classic tales of Tom Thumb and Gulliver’s Travels.

The eccentric dollmaker Mr. Franz, played by John Hoyt, is the owner of Dolls Inc. and possesses the futuristic equipment required to miniaturise human beings. Lonely and desperate for companionship, Franz eventually shrinks his attractive secretary and her boyfriend, imprisoning them in glass tubes in a state resembling suspended animation.

However, Sally and Bob have no intention of keeping Franz company forever. They rebel and break free from the ranks of his miniature human dolls.

As is typical of Gordon’s work, this film—reportedly his personal favourite—is dominated by imaginative optical effects, technical trickery and oversized props.
