Larry (Peter Fonda) and his buddy Deke (Adam Roarke) are blackmailing the daily takings of a grocery store and want to make their getaway as quickly as possible in their 1969 Dodge Charger. But the two crooks have reckoned without Mary (Susan George). Larry had spent the previous night with her and the crazy blonde is desperate to elope with her lover.
With the loot in the boot, Mary in the back seat and surrounded by police, Larry and Deke are caught in a whirlwind of chaos and devastation from which there seems to be no escape.
