The Boy Who Cried Werewolf (Fantastic Film Classics No. 36) [Mediabook]

During a nighttime hike through a California national forest, Robert Bridgestone is attacked and bitten by a werewolf. In the ensuing struggle, the mysterious creature plunges into a ravine and is impaled on a wooden fence. Robert’s young son Richie witnesses the terrifying incident, but no one believes his story — especially when he insists that his own father is now prowling the countryside whenever the full moon rises. Robert himself dismisses the idea completely: “You don’t really believe I’m a werewolf, do you?”

Part of Universal Pictures’ celebrated werewolf tradition, which began in 1935 and has fascinated generations of horror fans ever since, The Boy Who Cried Werewolf also marked the final film of several notable Hollywood veterans. Director Nathan H. Juran and leading man Kerwin Mathews had previously teamed with legendary effects artist Ray Harryhausen on the fantasy classic The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. Producer Aaron Rosenberg, meanwhile, was responsible for the Marlon Brando epic Mutiny on the Bounty, at the time one of the most expensive films ever made.
